Couples planning to marry at St. Basil the Great Parish should contact the Parish Office at least 6 months prior to the proposed wedding date so that appropriate assistance in marriage preparation may be provided. Weddings are only available at St. Basil the Great Parish for registered contributing parishioners (must be registered & contributing for at least 6 months prior to scheduling a wedding date) or immediate family members of registered contributing parishioners.
The Church welcomes couples who seek to enter into the Sacrament of Marriage as a sign of their love for each other and of our God who is Love. The period of the engagement is a special time of preparation. While there is much excitement, it is also a time to seriously consider the spiritual impact of their wedding and subsequent married life together.
The Church considers marriage a most sacred sacrament. In this sacrament, also called Matrimony, a man and a woman enter into a life-long covenant with each other before God and the community. The purpose of this marriage covenant is to enable the couple to become one in love for each other and to be open to the gift of children in their marriage.
Each couple is required to attend a Pre-Cana Program for Marriage Preparation. The Archdiocese conducts regional programs. Contact the parish at 610-933-2110 or basilchurchpa@gmail.com for further details.
Weddings can be scheduled on Saturdays between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Sick calls will be made at anytime.
Please notify the Parish at 610-933-2110 or basilchurchpa@gmail.com if you or anyone in your family has been hospitalized or confined at home due to sickness, infirmity, or age so they may be visited. Our pastor as well as Eucharistic ministers visit and bring Holy Communion to those unable to leave their home.
At the time of a death in the family, please call the parish at 610-933-2110 for the prayers and support of the parish community.
The funeral director assists in the preparations for the Mass of Christian Burial, working together with the pastor and the parish staff. Either the family or the family's funeral director may call the parish for coordination of the arrangements. Whenever possible, the family of the deceased takes part in planning the Mass of Christian Burial by choosing readings, lectors, hymns, and other aspect of the funeral rites.
Funerals are normally celebrated in the parish of the deceased. However, any member of the faithful, or those responsible for the deceased person's funeral, may choose another church; this requires consent of the pastor of that church and notification to the pastor of the deceased.
With very few exceptions, the Catholic faithful are entitled to receive Christian burial. The Church permits cremation provided that it is not chosen as a denial of faith in the resurrection of the body. It is required that the cremated remains be buried in a cemetery.
A Catholic cemetery is considered a sacred place and supports our belief in the resurrection of the body and the communion of saints. It is only by way of exception, therefore, that Catholics are buried in a non-sectarian cemetery. St. Basils Parish uses the St. Ann's Cemetery located on Pothouse Road in Phoenixville.
St. Basil's Individualized Sacramental Preparation class meets bi-weekly September through May. Please contact jimkingdre@gmail.com or 610-933-2110 if you would like to learn more about these opportunities for your child.
