Children’s Liturgy of the Word is an age-appropriate Liturgy of the Word geared toward children ages 5 through 8 (Kindergarten through 3rd grade). It is offered at our 11:00 AM Sunday Mass from September through June. No pre-registration is necessary. All children are welcome and encouraged to attend. Just before the Liturgy of the Word begins for the congregation, the children are invited to gather in the Choir room for their special Children’s Liturgy of the Word. During this time, the Children’s Liturgist will lead the children through simplified versions of the readings that will be heard by the rest of the assembly. The children return to their families at the conclusion of the Liturgy of the Word (usually while the Creed is being recited).
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a great way for young children to actively participate in the Mass. It provides an excellent opportunity for them to hear, reflect on, and ask questions about what the Scriptures say about living and acting in accordance with the Word of the Lord.
We are presently recruiting new volunteers to assist in this ministry. If you enjoy teaching children and sharing the faith, this is a perfect opportunity for you! Volunteers serve approximately once every 4-6 weeks and are with the children for approximately 20 minutes each session. Resources, training and support are provided. For more information or to get involved, please contact Jim King, our Director of Religious Education, at dre@stbasils.org or 610-935-1261.
We look forward to welcoming your children to the Children’s Liturgy of the Word and new volunteers to this very important ministry!
Eucharistic Ministers are a vital part of our Parish Ministries. Eucharistic Ministers serve at all of the Saturday/Sunday Masses, on Holy Days, and Masses during the Christmas and Easter Seasons. Masses on Holy Days and special services are on a volunteer basis. Eucharistic Ministers also bring Communion to the homebound and those in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Eucharistic Ministers are selected by the pastor and must be adult, fully-initiated practicing Catholics in good standing.
Lectors are a vital part of our Parish Ministries. Lectors serve at all of the Saturday/Sunday Masses, on Holy Days, and Masses during the Christmas and Easter Seasons. Lectors serve on one Saturday/Sunday per month. Masses on Holy Days and special services are on a volunteer basis. We can work around your schedule.
We strive to have two lectors at each Mass as directed by the Archdiocese so new recruits are always welcome. Lectors should be adult, fully-initiated practicing Catholics in good standing, have a pleasant, clear speaking voice, and a desire to bring God’s Word to His people.
We have a workshop about once a year and new lectors are individually trained as needed.
