Physical Education classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays at St. Basil's. Students are required to wear a well fitted gym uniform to school on the day of their class.  Sneakers MUST be tied so they can not slip off.   Girls' hair should be pulled back with a soft hair band or hair tie.  No hard head bands or fashion clips.  The Archdiocesan curriculum guidelines for physical education are followed in all classes. These guidelines include concepts of non-locomotor and  locomotor movements, manipulative skill development and a general knowledge of the physiology of the body during exercise.  Activities that develop these guidelines include tag games, soccer, kickball, basketball, volleyball, wiffleball, hockey and lacrosse.  All activities stress teamwork and good sportsmanship.  Classes are either held outside or in the gymnasium.

In addition, the students in grades 4-8 also participate in the President's Physical Fitness Challenge. This program was developed by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and is used by schools across the nation. The primary purpose of the President's Challenge is to motivate children to begin and continue an active lifestyle leading to enhanced physical fitness.  Through a series of tests their fitness level is scored and measured against the national standard.  The tests measure cardiovascular endurance, speed/agility, muscular strength, and flexibility.  The kids enjoy seeing how they change and improve from year to year.


Upcoming Events             


During the months of September and October, classes will be outside-weather permitting.  Please check the weather the night before PE class and make sure the students have sweat shirts and pants if needed.  A water bottle is also suggested for class

All classes will learn the skill sets for the sports of Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee and Flag Football.  In addition, the students will learn how to measure their heart rates and calculate their target exercising heart rate.  During the month of November, we will begin testing for the President's Physical Fitness Challenge with the 1 mile run and the sit-up tests.
